As a lash artist I’ve come to be obsessed with podcasts and audiobooks. I also love and adore catching up and having some of the best convos with my clients. I know some lash artists prefer clients not to talk so they aren’t moving their eyes around, and I will admit I do have one client to this day who is not allowed to speak; she can literally ask me how my trip to Disneyland was and her eyes go into a full blown panic, moving around like they are staring at an episode of “So You Think You Can Dance”.
Then there are the sleepers, the ones who I can always depend on for my podcast and audiobook time, because they always nap. This is the time I have come to love. It’s special to me because it lets me slip into an hour of lashing that goes by so fast. Some of the best books I’ve listened to on an audiobook because I just don’t have enough hours in the day to sit and read all these amazing books I’ve heard about.
Here’s a list of 3 audiobooks I’ve listened to while lashing, that have totally changed my mindset and given me so many “ah ha” moments in my lash business. I hope at a minimum you connect with one of these and it changes your world as much as mine.
#1. The Big Leap – Gay Hendricks
Self help anyone? Don’t worry it’s actually trendy now. This audiobook was an easy listen that kept me intrigued the whole time. It was so fascinating and I had lots of crazy realizations along the way. Basically this book is about how we all have these limiting glass ceilings in life, which stem from our childhoods and the belief systems instilled in us. It’s the idea that we start to self sabotage ourselves after we endure an extended period of success, happiness, and abundance.
Have you ever had an influx of new lash clients and started earning a higher income one month just to then get a bunch of unexpected expenses or bills? This is “The upper limit problem” that he discusses. Honestly I felt like I went through a session of therapy reading this- ha!
#2. The Four Agreements – Don Miguel Ruiz
This book has been a best seller for a long, long time. From the ancient toltec wisdom this is a great book to help you learn to deal with clients, plus just life and people in general. I honestly could probably write a blog on this book alone and how it could pertain to us as lash artists. The four agreements are as follows:
- “Be impeccable with your word”
- Say what you mean, use your words only to speak good things and not negative gossip etc..
- “Don’t take anything personally”
- Nothing others do is because of you, what others say and do is just a reflection of their own perception in life.
- “Don’t make assumptions”
- (Ummm guilty!) Ask questions, and communicate as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings.
- “Always do your best”
- This changes from moment to moment, your best when healthy is different than your best when sick, but if you always simply do your best you avoid self judgment and regret.
#3. Secrets of a Millionaire Mind – T. Harv Ever
I loved this book, it was an eye opener about our “thermostats” for how much money we should have in life. It really changed my perspective and helped me shift to be able to bring more money into my lash business. This author asks “Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily and others are destined for a life of financial struggle?”
He goes on to say if it is their education, luck, work habits, chosen profession etc… and his answer is none of these things. He says we all have a money and success blueprint instilled in us from a young age and will always have that limit until we identify it and revise it. A must read if you’re striving to make more money in your lash business!
